Babcock International, a global leader in engineering services, is offering an exciting opportunity to join its team as a Workshop Technology Trainer at the Lyneham site in Swindon, Wiltshire. This is a permanent, full-time position, ideal for a skilled engineering professional looking to share expertise and train the next generation of military engineers.
In this role, you’ll play a vital part in delivering practical, hands-on training within the Defence School of Electronic and Mechanical Engineering (DSEME), which supports the Defence College of Technical Training.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver practical training to military engineering students, teaching core skills in hand tools, fitting, drilling, grinding, and workshop technology.
- Develop and prepare training materials, including lesson plans, workbooks, handouts, and training aids.
- Use modern Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL) and contribute to the Virtual Learning Environment (VLE).
- Assist in technical administration, ensuring course materials, equipment, and teaching processes are up to date and aligned with latest technology and equipment advancements.
- Support students throughout their training journey, offering guidance, feedback, and mentorship.
- Continuously develop your own professional skills to stay current with emerging technologies and future training requirements.
Essential Experience:
- Strong hands-on experience in:
- Measuring and calibration equipment (e.g., gauge blocks, slip gauges).
- Engineering drawing interpretation and manufacturing/fabrication to spec.
- Fabrication using hand tools.
- Bench fitting, milling, and turning.
- Excellent craft/technical skills, combined with a passion for teaching and training.
Qualifications Required:
- City & Guilds Level 3 (CGLI Part 3) or NVQ Level 3 in a relevant engineering field.
Security Clearance:
- Candidates must meet requirements for Security Check (SC) clearance, due to the sensitive nature of the work.
