Underwriter

Description:

This is an opportunity for an underwriter to join the UK Accident & Health team to help service the existing portfolio, as well as to underwrite new business in accordance with our underwriting strategy. The successful candidate will bring experience in underwriting a variety of Accident & Health products as well as a good spread of A&H broker contacts.

Key accountabilities:

- To identify, underwrite, process and service profitable new and renewal business for the Accident & Health account in line with your underwriting authority, the business plan, and HGS underwriting rules and guidelines.

- To develop and manage strong, long-term relationships with London Market brokers and our mutual clients to profitably grow a book of business and provide excellent customer service.

- To work with colleagues in Legal, Compliance, Actuarial and Claims to provide the necessary support for existing and new business.

- To maintain accurate and timely data that will enable real-time interpretation of MI & provide suggestions on any strategic changes and identification of trends that may adversely or positively affect the account.

- To participate in projects that assist in carrying out the A&;H and HSUB strategy, including a review of our processes and operating model.

Skills & experience:

- CII qualified underwriter (Diploma level) or equivalent experience

- Relevant technical experience in Accident & Health products

- Ability to evaluate information from a variety of sources & to solve problems

- Accurate with attention to detail

- Good decision-making skills with the ability to consider the costs and benefits of various decisions and to choose the appropriate one

- Good communication and interpersonal skills, comfortable with phone and face-to-face discussions with brokers & colleagues, and confident in negotiation and networking scenarios

- Ability to organise own workload effectively to meet service standards, and to work independently or as part of a team

- Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines

- Competent user of Excel & Word
