Tunnel & Culvert Engineer

Description:

The Canal & River Trust is looking for a Tunnel & Culvert Engineer to join its Asset Management team. The role involves maintaining and ensuring the safety of 2,000 miles of waterways, primarily focusing on tunnels and culverts. The successful candidate will work with a team of engineers and inspectors to deliver the Trust's asset strategy and ensure the preservation of the infrastructure for future generations. The role includes inspecting tunnels and culverts, planning and executing repairs, and contributing technical advice during construction and commissioning phases.

Key Responsibilities:

• Undertake scheduled asset inspections, including confined space work and processing CCTV inspections.

• Support the delivery of the Trust’s 10-year culvert inspection plan.

• Provide specialist technical advice on design, feasibility, and commissioning phases.

• Support the development and implementation of the Trust’s asset management strategy.

• Assist with temporary works designs for Direct Services.

• Build relationships with partners, stakeholders, and regulators.

• Participate in the Trust's “Stand-by” and “Call-out” rotas.

Required Skills & Expertise:

• Professional qualification in Civil Engineering (Degree or HND).

• Knowledge of historic infrastructure, particularly in water environments.

• Experience assessing infrastructure risks and delivering performance across functions.

• Experience in the design and delivery of culverts or large diameter pipelines.

• Experience in confined space working and risk assessments is desirable.

• Proficient in MS Office and GIS/mapping systems.

• Valid driving license.
