Trainee Service Controller

 

Description:

Metroline are keen to seek applications from staff who wish to be considered for promotion to a Trainee Service Controller position.

 

Service Controllers are primarily based in iBUS control rooms but they are also required to work at any Metroline location, including garages and roadside or point locations.

 

The purpose of the job is to ensure that the quality of service delivery meets the standards required by the company to enable it to comply with contractual performance levels and budgetary criteria and also that staff performance meets the standard required to achieve these targets.

 

Main Responsibilities

  • To provide an efficient, regular and high quality bus service by supervising services and staff at terminals, garages and intermediate points along the routes;
  • To ensure that all relevant information relating to service operation is communicated to colleagues and other relevant parties;
  • To develop a good working relationship with Drivers and other support staff;
  • To represent and protect Metroline’s interests when attending emergencies, i.e. accidents, diversions and security alerts;
  • To represent and protect Metroline’s interests when dealing with members of the public in any company related matter;
  • To ensure that Metroline’s company policies and procedures are complied with, especially in areas concerning the health and safety of staff and others;
  • The post holder will be expected to conduct themselves in a professional manner appropriate to the role at all times.

 

Criteria for application

  • A background in a public transport industry would be advantageous;
  • A willingness to work at any Metroline location;
  • Basic knowledge of word processing, spread sheets and email;

 

Competencies & Skills to be tested in written application and throughout the selection process

  • A sound working knowledge of bus service operation including the iBus system;
  • An understanding of the company’s obligations to TfL in respect of service delivery;
  • Good command of English with excellent written and oral communication skills;
  • Ability to work as part of a team;
  • Ability to develop and maintain good relations with others;
  • Conversant with the rules and regulations for Drivers including Drivers Hours Regulations;
  • Ability to encourage, coach and guide Drivers to achieve the standards and levels of performance expected by Metroline;
