Strategy Manager

 

Description:

The Strategy Manager will lead key workstreams across the Strategy Delivery team, from developing and delivering aspects of our online safety strategy; managing integral operational projects for the successful implementation and evolution of the new regime; ensuring Ofcom responds effectively, promptly and proportionately to new or growing harms as part of our triage function; and managing key relationships with external stakeholders as part of our stakeholder engagement and DRCF work.

This role is suited to someone who wants to be part of a small team of ~20 colleagues at the centre of the Online Safety Group and who thrives from having a varied portfolio of work. We want proactive problem solvers who are adept at delivering at pace, innovative thinking, delivering clear communications and working collaboratively within the team and with other teams and disciplines.

 

Key responsibilities

This role is varied and will evolve over time in line with team priorities, allowing you to gain a broad range of opportunities and expertise to further your career at Ofcom. Work areas within the team will be allocated taking into account individual strengths, experience, and preferences.

Key responsibilities may include:

  • Developing and managing Ofcom’s strategic aims for online safety, maintaining effective relationships with teams across the OS Group and Ofcom to create and deliver strategic workplans.
  • Leading and/or supporting engagement with external stakeholders and developing stakeholder engagement strategies.
  • Analysing, prioritising and recommending a course of action on new and emerging harms as part of the OS triage function. This will involve the careful management of high-profile issues and engagement with senior colleagues across Ofcom.
  • Developing and overseeing core operational processes to ensure the effective and efficient running of our online safety operations.

 

Skills, Knowledge and experience

  • Ability to solve problems, conducting research and analysis where necessary into complex issues
  • Ability to independently lead and manage projects
  • Strong relationship management and communication skills, including ability to work with senior leaders, persuade and influence different audiences, and build and manage constructive internal and external relationships.
  • Strong written drafting skills, with a focus on producing clear, concise documents for internal use or external publication.
  • Proven track record of delivering at pace and flexibility to adapt to emerging priorities and shift focus as needed in dynamic team
  • Keen interest and/or practical knowledge of emerging online safety regulation in the UK and beyond – and Ofcom’s mission to create a safer life online for people in the UK.
  • Experience working across strategy or delivery, with a good grasp of policy development and implementation; and/or in project delivery, including planning and project management, with proven ability to identify and escalate risks.
