Description:

Howdens is looking for a Shift Manager to join our busy Warehousing team, on a permanent basis, based at our new purpose-built Raunds campus in Northamptonshire. As a FTSE 100 organisation experiencing continued growth and transformation, this is an opportunity for an experienced Shift Manager to efficiently and effectively manage a team of Group Leaders and Warehouse Operatives to meet key site objectives.

Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will oversee up to 120 warehouse colleagues, with core elements including picking, goods in, storage and loading processes as well as first line performance and quality management, ensuring any operational or performance issues are escalated, and correct measures assigned whilst having a commercial mindset

 

What Will I Be Doing As Shift Manager
 

  • Responsible for the operating procedures and disciplines within the warehouse, ensuring full compliance.
  • Leading, supporting and managing the Group Leader population; ensuring site performance/KPI targets and standards are met in a fair and consistent manner using correct operational processes and procedures.
  • Complete performance reviews with Group Leaders along with development and review meetings
  • Undertake the planning and deployment of labour resources to meet the volume of despatch, picking and goods-in requirements.
  • Responsible for maintaining and promoting a motivated, developed and competent team, liaising with HR and training departments to meet all staff development needs.
  • Be aware of budgets and costs related to the operation
  • First line responsibility for the health & safety of warehouse employees, including completing accident investigations, ensuring accident forms are completed to the required standard and passed to the relevant individual at the appropriate time.
  • Management of Howdens sickness absence procedure, ensuring all sickness and RTW forms are completed, including responsibility for short-term sickness absence procedure.
  • Responsibility for developing and maintaining an in-depth understanding of WMS.
  • Undertake ad hoc projects to provide/develop effective (continuous improvement techniques) and cost-efficient systems within the warehouse.
     

What do I need to qualify for the Shift Manager:
 

  • Proven Shift Manager experience in a large, fast-paced Warehousing environment.
  • An NVQ Level 4 in Warehousing & Storage.
  • IOSH or NEBOSH qualification desirable, or an expectation to sit the qualification once in role.
  • Experience in leading, motivating and developing teams.
  • Evidence of successful performance management
  • Strong influencer with the ability to articulate a vision and purpose
