The successful candidate will sub-edit multiple sections, ensuring the highest quality of journalism across print and digital platforms. This role requires exceptional copy-editing skills, headline writing expertise, and a strong understanding of editorial standards.


Key Responsibilities:

πŸ“ Copy Editing & Sub-Editing: Edit, refine, and enhance news, foreign, business, and comment sections while maintaining the publication’s style
πŸ“° Headline & Caption Writing: Create engaging and accurate headlines and captions for different sections
⏳ Deadline Management: Work under tight deadlines and ensure timely publication across all platforms
πŸ“Š SEO & Digital Publishing: Utilize SEO and data tools for headline construction and optimizing digital content
🀝 Collaboration: Work closely with news editors, designers, picture editors, and multimedia teams
πŸ—‚ Multi-Platform Publishing: Edit and format content for print, web, and mobile platforms
πŸ“… Flexible Work Schedule: Work on a 9-day fortnight with a 7-day rota, including early and late shifts


Required Skills & Qualifications:

βœ… Experience: Prior sub-editing experience at a national newspaper or news website, with a strong interest in current affairs and politics
βœ… Editorial Expertise: Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills with a keen eye for detail
βœ… SEO Knowledge: Strong understanding of SEO, metadata, and digital publishing tools
βœ… Technical Skills: Familiarity with editorial compliance, regulations, and industry best practices
βœ… Communication & Collaboration: Ability to problem-solve, negotiate, and work efficiently with multidisciplinary teams
