Lakeway Ecological is a wildlife-focused ecological consultancy based in Devon. We are seeking a Senior Ecologist to join our growing team. This role offers an opportunity to work on diverse projects, from small-scale developments to large conservation initiatives. We are passionate about balancing wildlife conservation with client requirements, ensuring the best possible ecological outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage ecological projects across different scales
- Conduct and coordinate Phase 1 and UK Habitat surveys
- Plan and execute protected species surveys and mitigation strategies
- Carry out and review Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) Assessments using DEFRA Metrics
- Perform Habitat Regulations Assessments (HRA) and Phosphate Assessments as required
- Liaise with Natural England, Local Authorities, County Ecologists, and other stakeholders
- Conduct peer reviews and contribute to the Quality Assurance process
- Mentor junior ecologists, providing guidance and training
Essential Requirements:
- Degree in Ecology or a related field
- Minimum four years of experience in ecological consultancy or nature conservation
- Experience conducting and coordinating Phase 1 and UK Habitat surveys
- Expertise in protected species surveys, mitigation, and licensing
- Level 2 Class Licence for Bats, with experience in EPSL mitigation licensing
- Proficiency in BNG Assessments and UKHab classifications
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage with clients, stakeholders, and regulatory bodies
- Full driving licence or means to travel to remote locations
Desirable Skills:
- FISC Level 4 or equivalent
- Experience in mentoring and staff management
- Knowledge of Habitat Regulations Assessments (HRA)

- Salary: £33,000 to £40,000 per year (£2,750 to £3,333 per month)
