The Department for Business and Trade (DBT) supports businesses to comply, invest, expand and export, creating jobs and opportunities across the country.

This role in the Content Design team helps businesses use our digital products and services so they can achieve their aims and the department can achieve the outcomes it seeks.

Our Content Design team creates and improves content on GOV.UK and great.gov.uk to make complex language and online processes simpler for businesses to understand. It also creates and improves content for the department’s intranet so that people working here can support businesses efficiently.

We make sure content meets a user need, is up to date, and complies with the latest accessibility standards.

We deliver insight into how well the content is performing and act on feedback. We use this to innovate, improve and provide a better service for our users.

We’re looking for a Senior Content Designer to work collaboratively with other professions in a multi-disciplinary agile team on important digital products and services.

You’ll be a skilled Content Designer with excellent attention to detail and able to deal with complexity.

You’ll know how to write simply and clearly, with the user in mind and can interpret research.

You'll provide consistency in language across designs and service patterns and consider user journeys across whole services.

This role is available in seven UK locations and can only be worked from within the UK, not overseas. Most DBT employees will be working a hybrid pattern, spending 2-3 days a week (pro rata) in the office on average. Changes to these working arrangements are available in certain circumstances but must be agreed with the vacancy manager and in line with the requirements of the role and can only be discussed with successful candidates. Travel to your primary office location will not be paid for by DBT, but costs for travel to an office which is not your main location will be covered.

Responsibilities

We’re looking for a Senior Content Designer who can work within ambitious and aspirational multi-disciplinary agile teams.

You will be expected to:

• create, iterate, publish and manage high-quality, user-centred content
• make complex language and processes easy to understand
• use analytics, user feedback, and user research to evaluate and improve content
• build relationships with stakeholders to understand their goals and work with them to improve user journeys and content quality
• manage multiple projects and adapt to changing priorities and deadlines
• provide feedback to and mentor others to make sure they’re delivering quality work
• work on the development and implementation of content strategies
• review and improve processes and work with content publishing systems
