Description:
Arup is seeking a passionate and skilled Senior Consultant to join its UK Sustainability and Climate Services Group, focusing on carbon management and assessment. This role is an opportunity to contribute to Arup’s global mission of shaping a better, more sustainable world through innovative and impactful environmental consulting.
As a Senior Consultant, you will work on diverse projects including the development of Net Zero strategies, sustainability supply chain management, and carbon impact assessments for major infrastructure and development projects. The role requires deep technical expertise in carbon assessments as well as the ability to provide strategic advice to both internal and external clients.
You will also play a key part in business development, client engagement, and proposal preparation — helping Arup maintain its reputation for high-quality and purpose-driven work.
✅ Conduct carbon assessments for various projects including infrastructure and energy initiatives.
✅ Develop and advise on decarbonization pathways and whole life carbon assessments.
✅ Perform technical reviews of carbon models and provide expert feedback.
✅ Contribute to the development of Net Zero action plans and sustainability strategies.
✅ Offer specialist carbon management advice to clients and internal teams.
✅ Engage in business development through preparing proposals, participating in networking events, and supporting client relationship management.
✅ Develop internal team capabilities, sharing knowledge and mentoring junior staff.
✅ Maintain up-to-date knowledge of UK climate policies, regulatory frameworks, and evolving best practices.
✅ Work collaboratively with Arup’s designers, planners, engineers, and environmental specialists to deliver integrated solutions.
🔹 Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant field such as:
• Carbon and Climate Change Management
• Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, or Environmental Engineering
• Geography or Environmental Science (with appropriate specialization)
🔹 Chartered status or working towards it (e.g., CEnv or CEng) - desirable but not mandatory.
🔹 Proven knowledge and hands-on experience in:
• Carbon assessment and modelling techniques
• Developing decarbonisation strategies
• UK and devolved climate policy and regulatory landscape
🔹 Strong analytical skills with the ability to handle complex datasets and interpret environmental data to inform strategic decisions.
🔹 Excellent communication and consultancy skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
