Senior Business Development Manager

 

Description:

This role will sustain and support the accelerated growth of CEPI’s Business Development Areas by supporting the execution of business development activities (included but not limited to search & evaluation, deal negotiation and alliance management) and the delivery of outcomes necessary for CEPI and its partners to prepare for and respond to outbreaks of CEPI’s core pathogens or disease X. We are hiring for two positions and this could be at a manager or senior manager level depending on the experience level and expertise demonstrated during the hiring process. The interviews would be conducted on a rolling basis.

 

Responsibilities

  • Support the execution of business development activities for selected priority pathogens/ disease X/strategic technologies including:
  • Identifying Target Partner Profile and Target Product Profile for evaluation by the program/disease teams and identifying opportunities for successful collaboration.
  • Support the lead negotiator leading complex/ high risk negotiations to their conclusion in a timely manner.
  • Defining adequate deal structure and lead negotiations of non-complex, low/mid risk deals
  • Collaborate with program team by executing due diligence on the Access and Private Partnerships aspects (if any)
  • Analysing strategic financial aspects of deals.
  • Maintaining the Business Development relationship with awardees throughout the product life-cycle.
  • Identifying and solving for project and portfolio risks related to partnership and access.
  • Collaborate with the Project Management Office, Program Leads and other departments in processes creation/ improvement included but not limited to addressing the private partnerships considerations. Design/co-create processes related to Business Development activities.
  • Become a subject matter expert in one or more of the following – early stage product commercial competitive positioning, financial analysis and valuation, partner identification or innovative financing

 

Education, Experience and Competence

  • Bachelor's and/or master’s degree preferred.
  • Requires minimum 5+ years’ relevant experience in biotech/pharmaceutical industry, vaccines preferred.
  • Requires relevant experience in due diligence, negotiations and the process of collaborations and licensing transactions essential, experience of public health or LMIC markets preferred.
  • Experience in one or more of the following business model creation and valuation, landscape analysis and target partner identification essential
  • Experience of working with matrixed cross-functional teams essential
  • Experience of working internationally strongly preferred.
  • Strong business acumen and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to lead, drive and motivate matrix teams.
  • Fast learner
  • Can challenge and disagree whilst maintaining relationships then commit to path forward.
  • Takes ownership of their work and delivers solutions even when there may be ambiguity or competing priorities.
  • Clear concise written and spoken English skills; other languages a plus.
