Description:
The University of Warwick’s Department of Physics is seeking a Research Fellow to work on Advanced Electron Microscopy of Phosphide-Based III-V Nanowires for visible and near-infrared miniature photon emitters. This role is part of a collaborative project with University College London, the University of Sheffield, and several industrial partners (Plessey, IQE, and Aledia).
This fixed-term position (12 months) will begin on 1st April 2025 (or as soon as possible thereafter). The research focuses on the growth, structural and optical characterization, and device fabrication of high-efficiency near-IR to green NW miniature photon emitters for display technology, imaging, and sensing.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct research using advanced electron microscopy techniques (aberration-corrected TEM/STEM, EDXS) to study semiconductor materials.
- Work with high-resolution electron microscopes (HRTEM, FIB) and associated analytical tools (SDD-EDX, EELS, cathodoluminescence imaging/spectroscopy).
- Prepare specimens using multi-beam FIB and a Leica microtome.
- Perform in-situ experiments using biasing and heating double-tilt holders.
- Collaborate with project partners at University College London, the University of Sheffield, and industrial companies.
- Disseminate research findings through publications and presentations.
Required Qualifications & Skills:
- Strong background in electron microscopy and spectroscopy techniques (Aberration-corrected TEM/STEM, EDXS).
- Experience in semiconductor material analysis.
- Additional expertise in cathodoluminescence, ultramicrotome, and FIB is desirable.
- A PhD (or near completion) in a relevant field. Candidates who have recently submitted their PhD will initially be appointed as Research Assistant until PhD confirmation.
