Research Fellow

Description:

The University of Warwick is recruiting a Research Fellow to undertake experimental research on a project aimed at investigating low-oxidation-state metal and metal oxide nanoparticles in the brain. This interdisciplinary project, funded by EPSRC, is part of a collaborative effort involving multiple prestigious universities. The project will explore the role of these nanoparticles in brain ageing and neurodegenerative diseases, focusing on the formation, evolution, and stabilisation of these nanoparticles within biological systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct experimental research, including advanced microscopy, to study metal nanoparticles in model systems and human tissues.
  • Develop protocols and prepare samples for analysis in various experimental settings, including cryo-conditions and custom environments.
  • Collaborate with international partners and contribute to synchrotron experiments.
  • Lead research teams and mentor junior lab members.
  • Manage research environment, maintain laboratory equipment, and oversee safety protocols.
  • Prepare and present regular reports to project teams, ensuring objectives are met.
  • Draft research findings for publication and contribute to joint publications with collaborators.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 2.1 honours degree in a relevant subject and a PhD (or near completion) in a relevant discipline.
  • Proven track record in research with high-quality outputs.
  • Knowledge of bioinorganic chemistry, nanoparticle characterization, and analysis of synchrotron x-ray data.
  • Excellent communication skills (both oral and written).
  • Experience with experimental and computational research methods is desirable.
  • Experience as a synchrotron facility user is advantageous.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative, interdisciplinary environment.

What We Offer:

  • A range of benefits, including an attractive pension scheme, 30 days holiday, and savings on products and services.
  • Generous parental leave and onsite childcare facilities.
  • Access to flexible working arrangements.
  • The opportunity to work with world-class research teams and technologies.
