Description:
This is an exciting opportunity to join our team and help develop future maritime digital services. The work will range from building systems to support the exchange of navigation information (often referred to as e-Navigation) to working with AI technologies and advancing data exchange methods in support of autonomous vessels.
The role
With the growth in data exchange between vessels and the shore, there’s a fantastic opportunity for AtoN service providers to innovate, to provide new services that can reach more users and do more. The software development engineer will work with colleagues from across the UK and Ireland, to support the introduction of S-100/S-200 data services, develop the Maritime Connectivity Platform (MCP) and support the software development aspects of the GRAD project portfolio.
We encourage data sharing with national and international colleagues, and the role will involve some travel around the UK and Ireland, along with the opportunity present our work at national and international conferences.
Who we are looking for
The ideal candidate will have knowledge and experience in the application of a wide variety of programming languages (preferably Java, JavaScript, Python and/or C++). We are seeking experience in Service-Oriented/Microservice Architectures and knowledge of SQL and non-SQL database design and development. Experience working with containerisation (Docker, Kubernetes) and cloud computing platforms (AWS, Azure, OpenStack) is desirable.
Knowledge of maritime communications and e-Navigation, especially and how it is currently being demonstrated and rolled out globally is welcome.
Ideally the candidate will be highly numerate and an experienced programmer with a degree (2:1 preferred) in computer systems engineering, software engineering, or equivalent experience. They should have practical experience of the systems engineering lifecycle, good knowledge of cyber-security issues, and have good project management skills.
