Product Design Engineer

Description:

Tom’s Studio, a fast-growing, founder-led lifestyle brand redefining stationery for creative minds, is seeking a hands-on and ideas-driven Design Engineer to help turn imaginative concepts into beautifully made, planet-friendly products. Known for the Lumos, their infinitely refillable pen, the studio aims to inspire creativity through thoughtfully engineered tools.

You’ll be a key player in the creation of new stationery items—from first sketch to final prototype—working closely with the founder and an in-house design team. This role blends precision and creativity, ideal for someone who enjoys diving deep into product mechanics while embracing innovation and sustainability.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the founder to design and develop new stationery products, including pens, accessories, and creative tools.

  • Translate rough ideas into fully engineered CAD models and technical drawings.

  • Create rapid prototypes using 3D printing, CNC machining, and other tools.

  • Continuously iterate designs based on testing, feedback, and innovation.

  • Source materials and manage communications with UK and international manufacturers.

  • Own detailed specifications including tolerances, finishes, and packaging requirements.

  • Partner across departments—design, marketing, fulfilment—to execute product launches.

Requirements:

  • Degree in Product Design, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.

  • 3+ years of experience in a design engineering or product development role.

  • Proficiency in CAD software (preferably SolidWorks or Fusion 360).

  • Strong prototyping skills and hands-on experience with various materials.

  • A refined eye for detail, balanced with a playful and innovative mindset.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills, from refining mechanics to optimizing simplicity.

  • Bonus: Experience in sustainability-focused design or consumer product development.

Why Join Tom’s Studio?

  • Be part of a creative, collaborative, and ambitious team that values curiosity and experimentation.

  • Help create meaningful, sustainable, and beautifully designed products.

  • Enjoy flexible working arrangements with time in a bright Hampshire studio and remote options.

  • Access to employee discounts and early product launches.

  • Play a key role in shaping a growing, community-focused brand that’s doing things differently.
