Description:
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Principal Designer to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of design projects, from inception to completion, ensuring compliance with the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations (CDM) in the UK. This role requires the ability to produce fee proposals, attract new business opportunities, and efficiently manage project timelines and resources.
**Key Responsibilities:**
1. **CDM Compliance:** Ensure projects comply with CDM regulations throughout all stages of design and construction.
2. **Fee Proposals:** Prepare comprehensive fee proposals for new projects, considering project scope, complexity, and resources required.
3. **Business Development:** Identify and pursue new business opportunities to expand the firm's client base and portfolio.
4. **Project Management:** Independently manage multiple design projects concurrently, adhering to deadlines and budgets.
5. **Client Communication:** Act as the primary point of contact for clients, providing regular updates on project progress and addressing any concerns or queries.
6. **Team Collaboration:** Collaborate effectively with internal design teams, consultants, and contractors to ensure seamless project delivery.
7. **Risk Management:** Identify and mitigate potential risks associated with design projects, implementing appropriate strategies to minimize liability.
8. **Documentation:** Maintain accurate project documentation, including design briefs, specifications, and regulatory compliance records.
9. **Continuing Professional Development (CPD):** Stay abreast of industry developments, regulations, and best practices related to CDM and design management.
**Requirements:**
- Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Engineering, or related field.
- Proven experience as a Principal Designer or similar role within the UK construction industry.
- In-depth knowledge of CDM regulations and their application to design projects.
- Strong proficiency in project management software and tools.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
- Strong organizational and time management abilities, with the capacity to prioritize tasks effectively.
- Membership or affiliation with relevant professional bodies (e.g., RIBA, CIOB) is advantageous.
