Description:
Gowling WLG is currently seeking a Planning Solicitor with 2–3 years’ PQE to join one of the UK’s most prominent planning practices, operating nationally from Birmingham and London. The team works on some of the country’s most high-profile projects across all major development sectors, including residential, commercial, infrastructure, and regeneration.
As a Planning Solicitor, you will be responsible for providing clear and commercially sound advice to a wide range of clients, including developers, local authorities, housebuilders, and retailers. The role involves handling complex legal matters including strategic planning advice, infrastructure consenting, compulsory purchase orders, compensation, appeals, and litigation.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage your own caseload, meet tight deadlines, and effectively prioritize work.
Deliver practical legal advice with sound commercial judgment.
Draft and negotiate planning-related deeds and documents.
Advise on planning agreements, infrastructure agreements, compulsory purchase matters, and due diligence.
Attend inquiries, judicial reviews, and appeals as required.
Work closely with clients and colleagues, including local authorities, agents, consultants, and other professionals.
Contribute to client training, marketing activities, and legal updates.
Key Projects and Clients:
Advising on developments like the Brent Cross Cricklewood regeneration, the Langley urban extension (5,000 homes), and strategic infrastructure projects for National Highways.
Representing clients such as Land Securities, Bloor Homes, Persimmon Homes, Transport for London, Clarion Housing, St Modwen, Crown Estate, and others.
Leading on Development Consent Orders, CPOs, and regeneration of major sites including former industrial complexes.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
Qualified solicitor with 2–3 years’ PQE in planning law.
Experience or strong interest in planning applications, infrastructure consents, hearings, and appeals.
Strong legal drafting and negotiation skills.
Team-oriented with excellent communication and organizational abilities.
Commercial acumen and ability to deliver client-focused solutions.
