The Role and Department
Research and Innovation Services (RIS) provides guidance, expert advice and hands-on support for all aspects of research and research-related work, including securing funding, working with partners, undertaking knowledge exchange, demonstrating impact, commercialising outputs, ensuring good research practice and supporting professional development.
This is an exciting new post created within the Business Development, Impact and Policy team to manage and deliver key objectives, projects and initiatives for the new strategic partnership between Durham University and County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust (CDDFT). Working alongside the Senior Business Development Manager responsible for the partnership you will develop and embed joint partnership working structures and systems across both organisations, identify and enable joint research, knowledge exchange and CPD activities and projects to be developed. You will project manage the implementation of key strategic partnership projects ensuring they are delivered to a high standard, on time and in compliance with University and Trust policies, as well as maximising the value and impact of these projects to Durham University and CDDFT – in terms of research outcomes, outputs, dissemination, impact, and follow-on activities. This role will also work in alignment with the Health@Durham strategy and contribute to the implementation of that strategy.
Reporting to the Senior Business Development Manager responsible for the strategic partnership with CDDFT and liaising with a nominated counterpart at CDDFT, you will work closely with multiple colleagues across both organisations, developing and maintaining relationships with key internal and external stakeholders for example Durham University researchers, CDDFT clinicians, Senior stakeholders including the partnership steering group to ensure the successful implementation of partnership projects and activities. The position will suit candidates with experience in managing complex collaborative research, innovation and commercial projects. This is an excellent opportunity for candidates who are wanting to develop their experience of working on strategic partnerships.
The post-holder has the following key responsibilities:
Establish and maintain partnership working practices and systems in both partner organisations to enable collaboration in research, CPD and other key areas of focus.
Identify and implement new joint research themes and enable knowledge exchange between partners.
Identify opportunities for, and project manage, partnership projects and activities to meet strategic objectives of both organisations and of the partnership.
Act as the main point of contact for all parties involved in partnership projects on a day-to-day basis, communicating clearly with project teams and stakeholders.
Prepare detailed project timelines and milestones, monitoring progress on a continuous basis, with a clear understanding of any impact on main project objectives.
Organise regular project update meetings, maintaining appropriate communication with all stakeholders and ensuring actions are created and undertaken as needed.
Establish, organise, and contribute to project management groups as required to support the project.
Oversee and manage project scope, tasks, deliverables, and timelines, including matrix management of project teams.
Report on project and activity progress to Partnership Steering Group and other stakeholders as required.
Work closely with other RIS teams responsible for managing project finances; holding regular meetings with project leads to ensure effective budget management
