Nature North Business Manager

This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious leader to work with our partners across the North of England. This role underlines our commitment to delivering real improvements for the environment, people and wildlife by maximising the resources and potential available.
You will:

  • play a key role in developing the thinking, steering, and ensuring sustainability of the Nature North partnership and will lead the Healthy Northern Rivers proposition.
  • support the Northern Hub Leadership Team, by identifying risks and opportunities to innovate and driving how we do things in the Hub to improve our delivery for the environment.

You’ll have an excellent understanding of the issues facing water in the North and how we work with partners to develop and deliver improvements.
Effective collaboration and influencing internally and externally at a high level are key parts of this role. You will work across the Environment Agency, with external partners and influence local/national government to ensure that we develop integrated solutions to ensure our rivers are more resilient.
Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.

The team 1

The post will sit with in the Northern Hub leadership team. You will have a G6 team member and will be working for the Northern Hub Director and work with staff in the four areas in the Northern Hub (Cumbria and Lancashire, Greater Manchester, Merseyside and Cheshire, North East and Yorkshire).

Experience/skills required 1You will have excellent leadership skills and be self-motivated, innovative in your thinking and open to challenge. You will demonstrate excellent judgement and decision making. You will be responsive and flexible to changing priorities but have emotional intelligence and resilience and a collaborative “can-do” attitude:
You must have experience in the following areas:

  • an excellent understanding of the governance and issues facing water in the North
  • working with/leading partnerships and developing strategies/plans
  • Green finance and innovate approaches to delivery and funding
  • influencing senior leaders and developing effective working relationships across the EA and Defra
  • communicating complex issues to a range of audiences and listening and adapting your response.
