Description:
British Antarctic Survey (BAS) is hiring a Metadata Assistant to improve the Findability, Accessibility, Interoperability, and Reusability (FAIRness) of the UK Polar Data Centre metadata catalogue. This role involves working with metadata conversion, assessment tools, and ensuring compliance with ISO 19139 XML standards.
Convert Discovery Metadata System (DMS) metadata into ISO 19139 XML using the bas-metadata-library.
Prepare metadata for ingestion into the Catalogue Service for the Web (CSW).
Set up FAIRness assessment workflows using tools like F-UJI Tool.
Use assessment results to enhance metadata quality and machine readability.
Ensure metadata from the CSW endpoint can be harvested by the NERC data catalogue.
✅ Degree (or equivalent experience) in a relevant subject (Science, IT, or Data Management)
✅ Proficiency in Python
✅ Strong attention to detail
✅ Knowledge of metadata standards and FAIR principles (desirable)
