Marketing Manager

About the job

Spiracle - The Sound of Great Writing

Spiracle Audiobooks is seeking a full time Marketing Manager, specialising in Digital (and with a love of books), to structure and support the successful growth of the business.

The right candidate will understand the interweave of digital, social, online and real world events marketing to grow our customers.

The company has just won FutureBook’s Start-Up of the Year 2024 “for daring to do things differently”; our new colleague will be joining a team with a purpose.

About Spiracle

Spiracle is a new, British based, independent audiobook platform available on web and app. Established in 2022, our core mission is to diversify the audiobook market by changing how and where the world’s authors and publishers can be discovered.

Our aim is to bridge the gap between book lovers and great writing in audio form by offering a curated selection of audiobooks in existing and new environments.

Our approach is “Less, but better”; we challenge the global marketplaces that dominate the audiobook space, driven by algorithms and volume of content.

As well as distributing audiobooks, we co-publish where we can. We also commission, produce and compile extra material - articles, podcasts and events - through the Murmurations portal on the Spiracle site, expanding our reach and adding knowledge and insight to the audiobooks available.

We are first to market with an innovative new product: Audiobook in a Card. This initiative brings audiobooks back into brick and mortar bookshops and opens out a web of collaboration between booksellers, publishers and other retailers. It is crucial to our mission.

The Role

We’re looking for an experienced, driven, resourceful Marketing Manager, specialising in Digital (with a love of books), to drive, manage and support growth across all corners of our business in 2025: subscriptions, audiobook purchases and Audiobook in a Card.

The right candidate will not only have grounded, practical experience leading a Digital Marketing function but will also delight in our purpose to build a vibrant community through the championing of independent and literary publishers and bookshops (so experience in the publishing sector is beneficial).

This is a managerial and a hands-on position. You will need the experience and confidence to be a self-starter when it comes to launching new marketing campaigns and initiatives. It is, importantly, an opportunity to grow a team and make a lasting impact on the success and culture of the business.

NB Spiracle is a start-up and start-ups require flexibility and resilience. However, we want to ensure you have the tools you need to grow and thrive. When it comes to career progression, this position has a clear trajectory towards joining Senior Leadership.

What will you do?

  • Oversee and execute marketing campaigns that work towards ambitious acquisition goals.
  • Manage our acquisition channels. We are channel agnostic and these include SEO, Organic Social, Paid Media, Email marketing, Content Marketing, Partnerships, Influencer Marketing and more. You will need hands-on experience with some of these channels and willing to learn how to execute others yourself.
  • Take ownership over the website, ensuring the user experience is continuously optimised and meets best practices.
  • Oversee the nurturing of fruitful partnerships with brands, suppliers and the wider literary community.
  • Manage our Social Media Producer to ensure our socials remain on-brand, adhere to best practices and continue to grow.
  • Oversee all content on the Spiracle website and socials, ensuring all output is on-brand and relevant.
  • Manage our customer maintenance and support, weaving relevant feedback into our product and marketing campaigns.
  • Be across all hybrid events (real world and online) ensuring maximum opportunity/impact for social interaction, customer engagement and acquisition.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of demonstrable experience in a marketing function at a startup (publishing experience will be beneficial although not essential)
  • 2+ years working in an office environment
  • Strong organisational skills
  • A track record in web and mobile marketing
  • Demonstrable experience of email marketing
  • Interest in building and maintaining a literary community
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Hands-on experience with marketing channels including Meta Ads, Google Ads, YouTube, TikTok Ads etc
  • An understanding of Ecommerce analytics (GA4).
  • Excellent communication skills and demonstrable experience working with a team to deliver results
  • A data-driven mindset
  • Ability to work with decisiveness, empathy and integrity.

Spiracle is niche, but niche does not mean small.
