Description:
The British Museum, one of the world’s most prestigious cultural institutions, is seeking a Management Accountant to provide high-quality financial reporting and insight across the organisation. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the stewardship of a globally significant museum with a collection spanning over two million years of human history and culture.
As part of the Finance Department, you will play a key role in ensuring timely and accurate management accounts, analysis, and forecasting. You’ll also support strategic decision-making by partnering with departments across the Museum and managing financial input into a wide range of activities, including business cases and funding applications.
Key Responsibilities:
Collaborate with the wider finance team to ensure best practice accounting and reporting for all Museum functions
Prepare monthly management accounts, forecasts, and detailed analysis of income and expenditure
Contribute to the preparation of consolidated financial statements and liaise directly with internal and external auditors
Ensure full compliance with public sector and charitable accounting regulations
Conduct financial reviews and efficiency assessments across Museum operations
Support Museum departments with project budgets and funding submissions
Required Qualifications & Skills:
ACA qualified (or equivalent) with a strong technical knowledge of relevant accounting standards, VAT, income tax, and NI
Degree educated or equivalent professional experience
Post-qualification experience in auditing and financial management
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage diverse and complex financial challenges
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to collaborate effectively and influence across disciplines
