Description:

The British Museum, one of the world’s most prestigious cultural institutions, is seeking a Management Accountant to provide high-quality financial reporting and insight across the organisation. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the stewardship of a globally significant museum with a collection spanning over two million years of human history and culture.

As part of the Finance Department, you will play a key role in ensuring timely and accurate management accounts, analysis, and forecasting. You’ll also support strategic decision-making by partnering with departments across the Museum and managing financial input into a wide range of activities, including business cases and funding applications.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the wider finance team to ensure best practice accounting and reporting for all Museum functions

  • Prepare monthly management accounts, forecasts, and detailed analysis of income and expenditure

  • Contribute to the preparation of consolidated financial statements and liaise directly with internal and external auditors

  • Ensure full compliance with public sector and charitable accounting regulations

  • Conduct financial reviews and efficiency assessments across Museum operations

  • Support Museum departments with project budgets and funding submissions

Required Qualifications & Skills:

  • ACA qualified (or equivalent) with a strong technical knowledge of relevant accounting standards, VAT, income tax, and NI

  • Degree educated or equivalent professional experience

  • Post-qualification experience in auditing and financial management

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage diverse and complex financial challenges

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to collaborate effectively and influence across disciplines
