Legacy Case Officer

 

Description:

Guide Dogs is seeking two experienced Legacy Case Officers to manage complex legacy cases and ensure the delivery of an efficient, accurate, and sensitive service in line with legislation, policy, and sector best practices. This is a part-time role (28 hours/week) based at the Reading Hub in Burghfield, with flexible hybrid working and a requirement to be in-office 2–3 days per week (Tuesdays mandatory for team day).

This position plays a critical role in safeguarding Guide Dogs’ income stream from legacies, helping transform the lives of people living with sight loss. You will be entrusted with handling a diverse caseload of legacy gifts, managing relationships with personal representatives and professional advisers, and ensuring financial and legal accuracy across all estate matters.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage a full caseload of pecuniary, residuary, and life interest legacy cases

  • Provide sensitive and professional correspondence with stakeholders including executors, solicitors, charity co-beneficiaries, and others

  • Conduct estate and trust account reconciliations and ensure all taxes (CGT, Income Tax, Inheritance Tax) are properly processed

  • Represent Guide Dogs' interests during the sale of property or land, including securing accurate valuations and maximizing returns

  • Stay current with legislation in probate, inheritance, tax, and trust law

  • Prepare briefing notes for trustees and update internal teams regarding case developments

  • Protect the charity’s financial and legal interests throughout the administration process


Candidate Requirements:

  • Experience in legacy administration, estate management, or legal roles within charity or probate environments

  • Strong knowledge of probate and tax law, including handling of estate distributions and trusts

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a sensitive and professional manner

  • Capable of managing a high-volume and varied caseload with attention to detail and efficiency

  • Confident in using office tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and video communication platforms

  • Must have the right to work in the UK (Guide Dogs is unable to offer sponsorship)
