Leakage Detection Technician

 

Description:

As a Leakage Technician, you’ll use your initiative and problem solving abilities to help reduce water leakage across our water supply network. Each year, we strive to achieve the leakage targets set for us by our regulator (OFWAT). You’ll use new technologies and innovative methods so that we can deliver better results. You’ll perform a full range of leakage detection activities such as working form DMA plans and data, noise logging and step testing. It’s your knowledge and ability to assess and diagnose problems that will enable you to find the best solutions to problems. In this role, you’ll also support when interruptions or incidents affect our customer water supply. You will have the full support of your team and manager, but a good knowledge of leakage network distribution water operations would be preferable. You’ll work 37 hours a week on a shift rota between Monday and Saturday and will have access to your rotas and schedule in advance to plan ahead.

What will you mainly be accountable for?
 

  • You’ll investigate and locate hidden leaks.
  • You’ll assist customers in resolving supply pipe leaks and other plumbing issues.
  • You’ll maintain knowledge of leakage network distribution water operations, pressure reducing valves, valve operations, flushing, mains tracing
  • You’ll liaise with SEW distribution staff and their contractors on leak repairs.
  • You’ll liaise with SEW customer contact centre staff, Production Staff and other SEW staff on leakage team activities.
  • You’ll liaise with and assist SEW customers as required.
  • You’ll update the asset data base where errors found in the field.
  • You’ll maintain knowledge and experience of leakage detection activities and competent in the use of leakage detection equipment.
  • You’ll meet administrative requirements of the role (e.g. inputting work onto Nomad, GIS and other corporate systems).
     

What do you bring to the role?
 

  • You have experience of leakage detection techniques, including correlators, ground microphones, pipe tracing and enigma loggers.
  • You’ll have knowledge of leakage network distribution water operations, pressure reducing valves, valve operations, flushing, mains tracing.
  • You preferably know how to carry out Step Tests if needed.
  • You’re a street works qualification holder.
  • You’re trained in national water hygiene (blue card).
  • You have good communication and customer service skills.
