Description:
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Lead Automation Engineer to join a growing business that is launching into the UK market. As the sole UK-based Engineer, you will work closely with international teams and blue-chip FMCG customers. This is a key position that offers significant autonomy and the chance to lead the development of a new software house in the UK.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and program automation control systems using Siemens DCS, PLC, HMI, and SCADA, to meet customer specifications.
- Develop technical documentation, including functional safety studies, FEED, design, test documents, and operational manuals.
- Engage directly with clients to understand their technical needs and develop long-term relationships.
- Ensure processes operate safely and efficiently, adhering to customer requirements.
- Lead teams of engineers and technicians, ensuring project milestones are met.
- Willingness to travel and work on overseas project sites as required.
Key Requirements:
- Minimum 3 years of experience in industrial automation systems.
- Experience with Siemens PLCs (S7-300/400/1200/1500), TIA Portal, Step 7, PCS 7, and HMI/SCADA systems like WinCC and InTouch.
- Knowledge of batch process automation with either PCS7 or PlantPax.
- Strong understanding of safety systems, including relays, PLCs, and compliance with IEC 61508/6151 standards.
- Familiarity with communication protocols such as Profibus, ProfiNet, and Modbus.
- Ability to design and develop technical documentation (FDS, FAT/SAT, O&Ms).
- Full project lifecycle experience, from design, coding, testing, and commissioning.
- Sales and team management experience is a bonus, with higher salary and commission options for suitable candidates.
Additional Information:
- The role will initially be home-based, with plans to establish an office in the West Midlands.
- Flexibility for 20-30% international travel as required for projects.
