The Position
The duties you will be performing as part of your role:
- Contribute to the development of the specialist legal team, HB Public Law, and the wider Legal and Governance department.
- Maintain a significant caseload in compliance with Lexcel requirements and uphold high standards of client care.
- Support clients of HB Public Law, including local authorities, schools, and housing organizations in West London and the Home Counties.
- Primarily based in the London office but travel to courts, client offices, and external partners as needed.
- Comply with office procedures, relevant agreements, and professional standards at all times.
- Build effective working relationships with clients, colleagues, elected members, and stakeholders.
- Ensure seamless and efficient legal service by fostering a team ethos and sharing best practices.
- Respond to corporate and customer needs while delivering value for money at the highest professional standard.
- Resolve professional issues effectively and set precedents for similar cases.
- Take responsibility for issued equipment and work remotely when necessary, ensuring compliance with data protection and confidentiality rules.
- Provide out-of-hours advice and attend evening meetings as required.
- Work unsocial hours and travel to different venues as needed.
- Undertake election duties as assigned.
About You
To be successful in this role, you should possess the following qualifications and skills:
- Specialist knowledge of English law, including local government law, equalities law, and data protection, with expertise in Property Law.
- Thorough practical understanding of local government law and public law principles.
- Awareness of governance arrangements supporting effective decision-making.
- Significant contribution to team efforts.
- Advising on property matters.
- Demonstrated commitment to continuing professional development.
- Undertake advocacy if applicable.
- Meet Lexcel requirements in file management.
- Possess excellent client care skills.
- Proficient in using Microsoft products and case management systems.
- Accurately record instructions and provide clear advice, both orally and in writing.
- Advise councillors in public meetings.
- Draft and negotiate some complex legal documents.
