Description:
The JV Investment Manager will ensure JV asset investment decisions (and significant operational decisions) are optimised through the whole lifecycle and that opportunities for value creation are identified and executed. They will also consider the application of Group’s ESG approach including Decarbonisation, Just Transition, Inclusion and Diversity and broader sustainability strategies as they apply to the JVs.
Responsibilities will include;
- Day to day interface between SSE Thermal and operational JV companies
- Attending JV board/management committee/safety committee meetings where possible and permitted by JV Shareholder Agreement/governance arrangements and taking ownership of SSE actions to ensure their completion.
- Leading on work to support strategic decision-making for JVs (including investment decisions)
- Pro-active analysis of existing JV companies and assets including owning and maintaining live financial models, in conjunction with Thermal Strategy modelling team
- Understanding our JV partners strategic positioning and identifying and communicating where issues need to be raised to shareholder level
- Reviewing JV performance and making recommendations and input to senior leaders to guide commercial and operational decisions
This role requires a strong analytical mind-set and the ability to develop and maintain strong business relationships across the Thermal business and with JV companies, employees and partners. This role is expected to challenge established ways of working to identify best in class operating and execution models and as such it requires someone who can influence across different levels of both the SSE Thermal organisation, but also the JV partner Companies.
What do I need?
- Degree level qualification or equivalent relevant experience in relevant discipline (finance, economics, engineering, science)
- Well-developed stakeholder management, communication, and negotiation skills
- Analytically rigorous and detail oriented, particularly with regards to numerical analysis, financial modelling, legal documentation and written reports
- Ability to grasp the commercial drivers in relation to thermal assets, including what the key drivers are for value enhancement
- Skill in examining and interpreting data from different sources and identifying the impact this will have for decision-making
- Knowledge and understanding of financial information, such as financial statements, company accounts and sector data
- Thorough understanding of industry challenges, regulatory change, and impact on commercial opportunities
