Description:
To provide advice on all pathology IT systems to both laboratory staff and laboratory customers/clinicians. Assist with the maintenance and develop IT systems including interfacing and connectivity to various laboratory systems both internally and externally. Assist in System Administration for the laboratory information system (LIMS). Follow established policies and develop /maintain SOPs for areas of responsibility. To ensure the LIMS and IT systems are maintained in accordance with ISO15189:2012 standards and other regulatory accreditation standards.
Your duties and responsibilities in this role will consist of:
- Be responsible for own personal educational, completing Level 3 Information Communications Technician programme, including End-Point assessment.
- To provide quality technical maintenance and support of all user-based IT hardware and software.
- Provide end user support for all onsite devices and network, talking staff or clients through a series of actions, either face-to-face or over the telephone, to help set up systems or resolve issues.
- To provide support to standard and authorised non-standard software applications.
- To take ownership and manage Service Desk tickets through full cycle of triage, referral to third party suppliers or IT colleagues to full closure within the boundaries of the Service Level Agreements in place.
- To perform installation and configuration of hardware, operating systems, software, and applications including LIMS Interfaces ensuring it is installed to existing IT standards and within any predetermined timescales.
- To provide supporting documentation for the departmental operational procedures and knowledge base items as appropriate.
- Provide verbal and written reports through immediate line manager identifying progress in relation to complex IT Incidents, issues, or implications.
- Liaise with other local support and/or development teams and/or suppliers obtaining advice and/or providing solutions on IT technical issues.
- Monitor and maintain Pathology First computer systems and networks.
- Troubleshoot Pathology First IT systems and diagnosing and solving hardware or software faults.
- To readily share IT knowledge, provide assistance, involving colleagues at all levels.
- To be involved with specific IT rollouts or projects as required.
- Set up new users’ accounts and profiles and dealing with password issues.
- Respond within agreed SLAs to all incidents and requests.
- Work continuously on a task until completion (or referral to third parties – suppliers/vendors).
- Prioritise and manage many open Service Desk tickets at one time.
- Participate in Departmental reviews, ensuring highest possible standards of work.
- Make changes in own practice and offer suggestions for improving services.
- Adhere to the approved Standard Operating Procedures used in the Department and within Pathology First.
- Own and/or actively participate in audit and review processes.
- Use and maintain resources efficiently and effectively.
- Positively participate within the rota, including any out-of-hours on-call rota.
- Report all incidents and adverse events to senior staff.
- Keep up to date with emerging IT technologies and infrastructures, changes to IT best practices, to ensure highest possible standards of work.
- To undertake any other reasonable duty, when requested to do so by an appropriate manager.
