Description:
This post will coordinate, develop, maintain and manage Software and Hardware procurement and asset management for End User Services. The post holder will be responsible for managing the EUS IT software and hardware procurement team, leading large scale procurements, resolving escalations and ensuring the delivery of a high quality software and hardware procurement service. The post holder will need to maintain appropriate records of hardware and software assets and ensure that software licencing is compliant with the Universities suppliers licence agreements.
This post will ensure that high quality IT services are delivered in a consistent way and with sufficient in-depth knowledge to advise other staff within the team.
Main Duties
- To manage the Client Hardware and Software purchasing and auditing for the University, acting as a point of escalation for all hardware and software procurement or asset management queries, maintaining existing procurement services and developing new ones in support of business requirements in a way that is consistent with University standards.
- To work closely with university staff to gain a thorough understanding of the business and to provide strategic guidance on how existing IT hardware and software licences can be utilised to improve the services offered.
- To lead on IT projects for the improvement, development and implementation of new systems or services, liaising with departmental staff, external suppliers and customers, and co-ordinating and supervising any IT work with other IT Support Team staff and suppliers as appropriate.
- To ensure that whenever possible existing software licenses and hardware are fully utilised by the University, and to advise when specialist systems may be required.
- To provide guidance to the university on major IT expenditure and on replacement / upgrade strategies for hardware and software, influencing budgetary spending in excess of £100,000 p.a. To be responsible for maintaining an inventory of equipment, specifying hardware and software versions, organising quotations with suppliers as required and arranging programmes of work for the installation of new equipment and initiating appropriate disposal mechanisms for redundant hardware.
- To act as the main IT contact between different areas of IT Services, ensuring that matters are dealt with by the most appropriate IT staff. This may include referring matters to others and ensuring completion. For routine jobs logged with the Service Desk, it may include undertaking the jobs personally or delegating them to other members of the team as appropriate and supervising their successful completion.
- To provide support to the University Systems to enable the user community to leverage enterprise platforms to solve their business problem.
- To be responsible for delegating and supervising work within the team and attending meetings with other departments.
- To act as a source of technical expertise to other members of the IT support team, either on a routine basis or as part of specific projects, providing one-to-one or group training as necessary.
- This post will require occasional working outside of normal working hours, and on occasions by prior arrangement to provide on site support at evenings and weekends.
- To undertake such other duties as may be required from time to time in furtherance of the work of IT Services.
