Description:
The Department of Infection Sciences is accredited to ISO 15189 standards. The laboratory consists of Microbiology, Virology and Immunology, all of which participate in appropriate external quality assessment schemes. The laboratories are currently registered with the Institute of Biomedical Science as a training laboratory for biomedical scientists.
The main duties of the post include responsibilities for:
Clinical -
- Perform analytical, interpretive judgements on results, ensuring staff and service development for best practice at all levels.
- As lead practitioner, resolve staff problems in clinical judgements and analytical results / techniques.
Management -
- Lead/manage staff within the Infection science laboratory and associated support services, ensuring appropriate staff structures, policies, practices and competences are in place.
- Assist in management of the on-site support services including sample reception, packaging, tracking and transportation, according to agreed schedules and protocols.
- Performance manage staff through appraisal and development, to ensure cost effective and high quality services.
- Ensure delivery of all relevant standards and targets for operational performance on activity, productivity, quality and risk management, and in accordance with all appropriate professional and regulatory bodies
- Hold delegated responsibility for the Infection Sciences budget
Administration -
- Maintain a QMS to ensure continual compliance with accreditation and regulatory bodies
Education -
- Ensure robust systems to ensure staff can carry out their work safely and efficiently, working to high standards, and providing evidence of competence assessment.
