Description:
Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) is seeking a High Voltage Lead Electrical Construction Fitter to join our team and contribute to the safe and efficient delivery of electrical substation construction projects across our Southern region.
As a vital part of our electrical distribution network, you will be responsible for constructing, installing, and maintaining high-voltage (11kV - 132kV) electrical apparatus in substations, ensuring the reliable distribution of electricity to 3.9 million homes and businesses across the UK.

✅ Construction & Installation: Work in a team responsible for constructing electrical apparatus within substations (11kV - 132kV)
✅ Safety Compliance: Ensure all projects adhere to safety regulations, operational safety rules, and CDM regulations
✅ Emergency Response: Support emergency response efforts during fault scenarios in substations
✅ Relay & Metering Installation: Install fixed relays onto relay panels and commission CT Metering apparatus
✅ Technical Wiring Work: Work on DC battery systems, internal panel wiring, multicore cable terminating/glanding, AC/DC wiring, and installation of circuit breakers & isolators
✅ Customer Service: Act as an ambassador for SSEN, delivering high-quality service to internal and external stakeholders
✅ Travel & Site Work: Regular travel throughout the Southern region to various substations and project sites
✔ Experience working in live electricity substation environments (11kV - 132kV)
✔ Proven expertise in electrical distribution networks and high-voltage systems
✔ Ability to read & interpret single-line wiring diagrams and cable ferruling
✔ Experience working with DC battery systems, circuit breakers, multicore cables, and control panels
✔ High regard for safety protocols, construction site regulations, and CDM standards
✔ Operational authorisations within the electricity network (preferred)
✔ Training/qualifications in scaffold, telehandler, working at height, confined space, asbestos handling, COSHH, Loler, or SMSTS (desirable but not essential)
✔ Full UK driving license and flexibility to travel to multiple work sites

🔹 Knowledge of network safety and emergency response protocols
🔹 Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work effectively within a team
🔹 Prior experience in power distribution projects and substation construction
💰 Salary: £3,090 - £3,588 per month (£37,075 - £43,063 per year)
📅 37-hour work week with overtime and travel time available
