Head Of Commercial

 

Description:

As the Head of Commercial, you will be responsible for leading the commercial function across all our residential projects and managing a full commercial team. You will develop and implement commercial strategies that maximize profitability and ensure the efficient delivery of our developments. This senior leadership role requires a strategic thinker with extensive experience in the housebuilding sector and a proven track record of commercial success.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Lead and manage the commercial team, including Quantity Surveyors, Buyers, and Estimators.
  • Develop and execute commercial strategies to achieve company financial targets.
  • Oversee cost planning, budgeting, and forecasting processes.
  • Ensure robust contract management and negotiation with suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Implement best practices in procurement, risk management, and cost control.
  • Collaborate with other senior leaders to align commercial objectives with overall business strategy.
  • Monitor market trends and competitor activity to identify opportunities and threats.
  • Prepare and present commercial reports and performance metrics to the board of directors.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement and professional development within the commercial team.

 

Requirements:

 

  • Degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Business, or a related field.
  • MRICS or equivalent professional qualification is highly desirable.
  • Have worked for a Housebuilder/Developer within the UK (Essential)
  • Extensive experience in a senior commercial role within the housebuilding or construction sector.
  • Strong leadership skills with a track record of managing and developing high-performing teams.
  • Deep understanding of UK construction contracts, procurement methods, and cost management.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strategic mindset with the ability to drive commercial initiatives and influence at the executive level.
  • Proficiency in relevant software and tools (e.g., MS Office, COINS etc).
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, results-oriented environment.
