Thank you for your interest in the post of Groundsperson with Historic Environment Scotland, based at Holyrood Park, Edinburgh. This is a permanent and pensionable appointment.

You will join a dedicated team responsible for all aspects of grounds maintenance within Holyrood Park. This is an approximately 650-acre site which holds both Site of Special Scientific Interest and Scheduled Ancient Monument status.

Key responsibilities, duties and objectives

The post involves litter removal, general grass maintenance and gardening duties within the grounds maintenance team. You will be expected to work under the instruction of the Works Manager and Assistant Works Manager, and you will be required to comply with and promote Historic Environment Scotland (HES) Health and Safety Policies.

From time to time you may be required to attend training courses identified to assist the work, or to comply with health and safety legislation.

Your responsibilities and duties will include:
 

• Grass cutting and strimming using various types of machinery
• Litter collection
• Leaf collection
• Minor maintenance of plant and equipment
• Hedge maintenance
• Tree works (woodland maintenance including ground-based chainsaw operations)
• Chemical Weed Control (applying herbicides via applicators )
• Driving duties as required
• Minor fencing repairs
• Minor drainage works
• Assisting Holyrood Palace Gardens Team as required
• Keeping the working site clean and tidy ensuring that safe access to working areas is maintained at all times
• Maintaining individual responsibilities for health and safety awareness and the health and safety of members of the public and fellow employees
