Description:

RWE Renewables UK is seeking an experienced Grid Manager to join their team and play a key role in the development and construction of large-scale, grid-connected renewable energy projects (solar, storage, and wind).

This role will focus on managing grid connection aspects of projects from initial conception to planning submission, final investment decision (FID), and construction phase. As a part of RWE’s strategy to expand its renewable energy footprint in the UK, you will work closely with distribution network operators (DNOs), transmission operators (TOs), land teams, and technical partners to drive project success.

πŸ”Ή Key Responsibilities:

βœ… Grid Connection & Project Management

  • Identify and assess new project leads and collaborate with DNOs and land teams to advance them into active projects
  • Manage the grid connection process, including submitting formal applications and reviewing grid connection offers
  • Engage with network operators and industry trade bodies to ensure regulations facilitate renewable energy expansion

βœ… Technical Design & Assessment

  • Design and specify substation and grid infrastructure equipment for large-scale renewable energy projects
  • Conduct due diligence and assess grid connection opportunities
  • Review new technical standards and policies to ensure up-to-date compliance and process improvements

βœ… Stakeholder Collaboration & Compliance

  • Work closely with Independent Connection Providers (ICPs), Technical Advisors (TAs), and third-party contractors
  • Act as the technical expert for grid design and compliance throughout the development and construction phases
  • Maintain active engagement with the DNO/TO post-acceptance to ensure smooth project progression

  • Mentor and train junior team members, fostering a culture of knowledge-sharing
  • Support internal teams by providing technical expertise on grid-related matters

πŸ”Ή Minimum Requirements:

βœ” Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Renewable Energy, Engineering, or a related discipline
βœ” Experience:

  • Proven project experience in utility-scale solar or wind farm development and grid infrastructure design
  • Experience with DNO/TO processes and working with distribution and transmission network operators
    βœ” Technical Skills:
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Excel models for design/assessment)
  • Experience with protection communication requirements
  • Commercial awareness of design decisions and equipment specifications impacting project profitability
    βœ” Software Knowledge:
  • DIgSILENT or equivalent power modeling tools (highly advantageous)
  • AutoCAD & PVSyst for designing multi-megawatt Solar PV installations (highly advantageous)
    βœ” Soft Skills: Strong communication, teamwork, and structured problem-solving skills
