Description:
The Graphics Specialist will support the GRI's mission of advancing health through impactful research by developing high-quality graphics that clearly communicate intricate scientific concepts and data. This role will enable researchers to focus on their core work while ensuring that proposals, publications, and presentations maintain a professional and competitive edge.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Graphic Design for Research Proposals : Create and design visual materials, including charts, graphs, infographics, diagrams, and illustrations, that accurately represent complex scientific data and methodologies.
- Collaborate with Researchers : Work closely with scientists, clinicians, and engineers to understand research content and translate complex information into accessible, visually engaging formats. Manage the organisation of meetings and feedback to ensure strong collaboration and understanding of requirements. Participate in working groups and committees across schools as required.
- Ensure Consistency and Quality : Maintain consistency in visual content across research documents, ensuring all graphics adhere to institutional standards and guidelines. Manage all filing and archiving of materials created.
- Training & Resource Development : Develop templates, guidelines, and conduct training sessions to equip researchers with best practices in creating visuals, empowering them to independently produce high-quality graphics when needed.
- Incorporate Feedback : Gather input from researchers and stakeholders to iteratively refine visuals, ensuring final graphics meet all expectations and accurately convey research objectives.
- Innovation and Development : Stay updated on the latest trends and tools in graphic design and data visualisation, implementing new techniques to continuously improve the quality of visual outputs.
Education, Qualifications and Experience
Essential
- Experience : Proven experience in scientific or technical graphic design, with a portfolio demonstrating high-quality, accurate, and visually compelling graphics. Familiarity with healthcare or technology environments is a plus.
- Technical Skills : Proficiency in graphic design software (e.g., Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign) and data visualisation tools. Experience with design for scientific audiences is advantageous.
- Attention to Detail : Exceptional attention to detail to ensure accuracy and clarity in data representation and visual consistency across projects as well as strong analytical skills.
- Communication Skills : Strong interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, translating complex scientific information into accessible visual formats.
- Team Player: The appointed individual will join the H&CT GRI team and must therefore be willing and enthused to be an active team member. Sometimes, this may require working flexibly to achieve the overarching objectives of the GRI. A professional and pro- active approach is essential.
Desirable
- Educational Background : Degree in Graphic Design, Scientific Communication, or a related field with a strong focus on data visualisation. However, we emphasise that prior demonstrable relevant experience will be weighted appropriately.
- Grant Proposals : Experience in supporting/writing grant proposals would be advantageous.
