Graduate Internal Audit Trainee

The Graduate Internal Audit Trainee will support the delivery of the Council’s internal audit activity and for external clients.

Under the supervision of an assignment manager the Graduate Internal Audit Trainee will undertake a range of audit related tasks including research and planning, testing and reporting. Over the duration of the training period the tasks will become progressively more complex until the Trainee can take full responsibility for audit delivery.

The Graduate Internal Audit Trainee will be a graduate and undertake professional training towards the Chartered Institute of Internal Auditors (CMIIA) and Certified Internal Auditor qualification (CIA).

The role is classified as an ‘Anywhere Worker’, providing good flexibility for remote working. Due to the nature of the work conducted by Internal Audit, it may be necessary to physically visit Council sites to complete elements of audit testing. Some travel within Essex should therefore be expected. As a minimum, the Internal Audit Team hold monthly ‘Together Days’ in the office.

• Able to evidence the ability to continuously develop and demonstrate a risk-based approach to work.
• Sound analytical skills – able to find solutions to complex problems and explain them clearly.
• Excellent attention to detail and ability to understand and digest complex data sets.
• Excellent report writing skills demonstrating Microsoft Office Suite experience.
• Evidence of excellent communication skills with the ability to effectively negotiate and persuade.

Essential Requirements for the role:

• Hold a valid government issued identification (passport or driver licence).Have the right to work and study in the UK.
• Have been ordinarily resident in the UK or EEA for three years before the start date (this role is not open to international students, due to the entry requirements of the apprenticeship).
• Educated to RQF level 6 (Bachelor’s degree), or higher in any discipline or expecting to graduate Summer 2024.
• Have GCSEs at grade 4/C or above in both English and Maths or international equivalent proven by NARIC Statement.
