Description:

Spectrum Geosurvey, a specialist in coastal geophysical surveys for the offshore renewables sector, is seeking an enthusiastic Graduate Hydrographic Data Processor to join its growing team in Lymington. This role provides an excellent entry-level opportunity for individuals passionate about marine sciences, spatial data, or hydrography, offering comprehensive in-house training in hydrographic data processing techniques using CARIS HIPS & SIPS.

You will work closely with experienced surveyors and develop skills in bathymetric data processing, report writing, chart creation, GIS applications, and data quality assurance. The role supports the full lifecycle of survey data—from acquisition feedback to client deliverables—helping deliver high-quality and reliable results.


Role Responsibilities:

  • Process bathymetric and geophysical survey data under expert supervision

  • Assist with survey report writing, seabed contact characterization, and data interpretation

  • Create charts and chartlets using QGIS or ArcGIS

  • Conduct data quality control to ensure alignment with project scope

  • Communicate feedback to field teams to enhance data acquisition practices

  • Troubleshoot and resolve inconsistencies in data

  • Follow and improve upon existing processing procedures

  • Support data management and archiving processes

  • Maintain accurate documentation using Excel and Word

  • Uphold strict data confidentiality and integrity standards


Required Education/Experience & Attributes:

  • Degree in Hydrography, Marine Sciences, Marine Geography, or related discipline

  • Knowledge of multibeam systems, side scan sonar, magnetometers, etc.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a solution-oriented mindset

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite

  • Strong attention to detail, especially under tight deadlines

  • Excellent report writing and data management skills

  • Effective communication skills

  • Valid UK driving license


Desirable (but not essential):

  • Prior experience working with GIS or spatial data

  • Industry experience in hydrographic surveying

  • Project management exposure

  • Experience in QGIS, ArcGIS, or Python scripting

  • Familiarity with hydrographic survey planning/reporting
