Global Policy Manager

 

Description:

The Global Policy Manager will keep current on all policy developments linked to CIPL’s core topics. They will perform in-depth legal research, analysis and contribute to CIPL’s written materials in areas related to global privacy and data policy, accountability and organizational best practices and work closely with the CIPL team to develop strategies and implement project plans to advance CIPL’s global policy agenda. This includes in particular also, but is not limited to, the following topics:

 

Developments regarding the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), ePrivacy and other EU privacy issues; the UK data protection reform bill; EU and UK AI strategies and legislative initiatives including the EU AIA; EU and UK digital/data policy developments such as the DMA, DA, DGA, DA and parallel UK developments; international developments in Children’s Privacy; the impact of data driven innovation, emerging technologies and privacy preserving technologies; international cross border data flow issues (e.g. EU-US Data Privacy Framework, EU BCR, SCCs, CBPR); Brazil, Latin America and Asia-Pacific data protection laws and developments; Accountability-based information management and privacy governance; global data sharing developments and best practices; privacy risk management; and effective privacy regulation and oversight.

 

 

Day-to-day Responsibilities and Accountabilities Include:

 

  • Prepare and edit written materials, including:

o Project white papers on a wide range of privacy law and data policy topics, in particular those relating to European, Brazil, Latin America and Asia-Pacific developments.

o Public consultation responses to European and UK data protection authorities and other global regulators.

o Presentations, talking points and summaries of CIPL papers and research.

o Meeting reports from CIPL workshops and roundtables, and other industry meetings and events.

o Blog posts including for the Hunton Andrews Kurth Privacy Blog.

o Articles for various privacy publications

  • Monitor and report on global privacy developments to CIPL leadership and to CIPL members, including on European, UK, Brazil, Latin America and Asia-Pacific developments and identify opportunities for CIPL engagement.
  • Conduct special projects including empirical research on organizational best practices with CIPL members, analyse findings and draft benchmark reports.
  • Take part in special privacy and data policy strategic consulting projects for CIPL members, other companies and governments.
  • Maintain member relations and engage with individual CIPL members on substantive data privacy and data policy issues.
  • Liaise with global data protection regulators (DPAs) and work to develop agendas, content and identify speakers for CIPL events with and for DPAs.
  • Manage ongoing projects, including coordinating project input and publication schedules.
  • Contribute to the development of new projects and ideas that further CIPL’s mission.
  • Assist with special projects and any other job-related duties as assigned by the President and Vice President or the leadership team at large.
  • Assist with planning, organizing and developing content for CIPL workshops, roundtables and other events.
  • Assist, where appropriate, with internal CIPL administrative tasks, such as organization of internal documents and other written resources, internal project management, planning and coordination among team members.
