At School-Home Support (SHS), our mission is simple—we get children and young people back in school, ready to learn, whatever it takes. St. Paul’s Secondary School is a small independent school in Balsall Heath, Birmingham, dedicated to supporting young people aged 11-16 years who experience social, emotional, and mental health difficulties (SEMH).
We are seeking a Family Support Worker to play a crucial role in bridging the gap between home and school by providing targeted support to children and families. You will work closely with students, parents, and school staff to promote better attendance, punctuality, engagement in learning, and social-emotional well-being.
Key Responsibilities:
✅ Casework & Family Support:
- Work directly with children, families, and school staff to improve educational outcomes.
- Provide individual and group-based support to families facing challenges.
- Deliver family support interventions tailored to the needs of each student.
✅ Improving Attendance & Engagement:
- Help reduce absence and lateness, ensuring students attend school regularly and on time.
- Work to enhance student engagement and behavior in school and the community.
- Support students in developing emotional regulation and well-being.
✅ Collaboration & Outreach:
- Build strong relationships with parents, carers, guardians, and local services.
- Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, and external professionals to coordinate support plans.
- Support families from diverse backgrounds and different community settings.
Candidate Requirements:
✅ Essential Experience & Skills:
- Experience working with families, parents, and guardians through individual or group support.
- Background in education, outreach, or family support work.
- Knowledge of social and emotional factors affecting a child’s ability to learn.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to engage with diverse communities.

- Ability to work proactively and independently within a school setting.
