Ricardo plc, a global strategic, environmental, and engineering consulting firm, is seeking an Intern – Energy Systems to join its Energy Infrastructure Transition team. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in engineering and consultancy within a dynamic and evolving sector.
Working alongside experienced professionals in engineering, techno-economic analysis, and management consultancy, the successful candidate will contribute to projects focused on clean fuels, industrial decarbonisation, circular resources, and power systems. This role provides a stepping stone to a career in sustainable energy infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support senior consultants in delivering energy transition projects.
- Conduct research and analysis to develop expertise in strategic, technical, commercial, and regulatory aspects of the energy sector.
- Assist with data analysis, techno-economic modeling, and report development across multiple projects.
- Contribute to proposal writing to help secure new projects.
- Ensure high-quality and timely project deliverables while collaborating with internal teams.

Required Skills & Competencies:
- Strong numeracy, analytical, and communication skills.
- Proactive and organized approach with attention to quality.
- Pursuing a degree in engineering (process/chemical, electrical, energy systems, or similar) or economics with a focus on energy transition.
- Proficiency in MS Office tools, particularly Excel for data analysis and modeling.
- Passion for energy transition, innovation, and sustainability.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including formal report writing and presentations.
- Ability to break down complex research questions and think creatively.
Desirable Skills & Experience:
- Prior experience in energy transition or consultancy.
- Fluency in additional languages (Spanish, French, or Portuguese).
- Familiarity with software tools such as Python, Homer Pro, Helioscope, PV/Syst, DigSilent, PSS/E, PowerWorld, or PLEXOS.
