Description:

A specialist Principal Contractor delivering prestigious projects across the Motorsport, Commercial Office, and Healthcare sectors is seeking a dynamic Design Manager. With an impressive portfolio of high-end construction and refurbishment projects, including work for Formula One clients, this growing firm offers a unique opportunity to manage innovative and technically complex designs.

As the Design Manager, you will be site and office-based, playing a key role in managing design and engineering delivery across multiple high-profile projects. You’ll work closely with the Project Management team to ensure that all stakeholders, from design consultants to construction partners, produce solutions that are both technically sound and commercially viable.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the design process from pre-construction through delivery, ensuring a coordinated and efficient outcome.

  • Implement and maintain design quality procedures, adopting a right-first-time philosophy.

  • Identify opportunities to improve value engineering and affordability throughout the project lifecycle.

  • Collaborate closely with clients, consultants, and construction teams to meet design intent, program, and budget.

  • Ensure compliance with relevant building regulations, contractual obligations, and procurement procedures.

  • Monitor design deliverables and manage design risk across the life of the project.


Candidate Requirements:

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a Design Management role for a Principal Contractor or Tier 1 Contractor.

  • Strong understanding of JCT DB or JCT SBC/IC with CDP contracts and how they influence design responsibilities.

  • Proven ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, clients, and external consultants.

  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.

  • Qualification to a minimum of HNC in a Construction-related discipline.

  • Ability to think commercially and technically, balancing project requirements with design innovation.
