The Role & Key Responsibilities
From your first day with us you will be part of a policing family making a real difference.
It is our mission to identify and protect vulnerable people, prevent and respond to harm and keep people safe.
The Sussex and Surrey Data Engineering (ETL) team is responsible for maintenance and development of the Data Warehousing provision for reporting and regulatory agency extracts. We are looking for a Data Engineer to join our dynamic team and contribute to our data-driven initiatives.
The candidate will ideally have a background in data engineering, excellent problem-solving skills, and a passion for working with data. You will work closely with data scientists, analysts, and other stakeholders to ensure seamless data flow and accessibility.
Day-to-day, this role involves developing ETL pipelines, deploying ETL packages and rigorous testing in response to project and incident requests. As part of this, you will be involved in detailed requirements gathering to enable clear definition, base-lining and management of requests. You will be able to interpret requirements and apply data engineering standards, modelling and design techniques to these requirements to define and document data warehouse component specifications to facilitate and participate in the coding, verifying, testing, amending, and refactoring of data flows, data pipelines, programs, and scripts. This structured approach ensures the data infrastructure supports business goals effectively, facilitating data-driven decision-making.
The candidate will also be involved in the optimisation of our ETL pipelines, enhancing efficiency, accuracy and resilience.
We are looking for someone who can communicate with our various stakeholders across Surrey and Sussex police forces to ensure full understanding of issues, whilst providing regular status updates of investigation and resolution.
We are transforming our data infrastructure and processes to meet the growing data demands of our policing. This includes adopting DevOps framework to better deliver value to our customers. The team is also looking to the future and beginning discussions on the next evolution of the Data Warehouse. We will work closely with related fields such as data science, analytics, data integration and cloud.
