Controls & Automation Engineer

 

Description:

A leading European manufacturer of high-value capital equipment within the food and drink sector is seeking a Controls & Automation Engineer to join their growing team. As part of an international group of engineering companies, this organisation is expanding rapidly through strategic investment and innovation.

The successful candidate will play a key role in the design, development, commissioning, and support of advanced control systems, both remotely and on-site, in the UK and overseas. This is a dynamic and rewarding role for someone passionate about automation and engineering excellence.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop control software for high-value production machinery.

  • Program PLCs (Siemens and Allen Bradley/Rockwell) and configure HMIs.

  • Prepare Functional Design Specifications (FDS) and Software Design Specifications (SDS).

  • Perform remote and on-site commissioning and offer ongoing support.

  • Troubleshoot complex technical issues on-site and remotely.

  • Create technical documentation and user manuals.

  • Collaborate effectively with internal teams and clients to deliver tailored automation solutions.


Candidate Requirements:

  • Degree or qualification in Electrical, Electronic, or Mechatronic Engineering.

  • Experience working with special purpose or high-value production machinery.

  • Hands-on experience with PLC programming (Siemens and Allen Bradley/Rockwell).

  • Familiarity with SCADA/control software.

  • Proficient in diagnostic fault-finding and technical problem-solving.

  • Strong communication and documentation skills.

  • Able to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.


Salary & Benefits:

  • Salary: £55,000 – £70,000 per annum (depending on experience)

  • Working Hours: 37 hours per week

  • Place of Work: Hybrid – Home and Field Based (includes UK and overseas travel)

  • Company Vehicle: Provided

  • Overtime: Paid at an enhanced rate

  • Annual Leave: 25 days + Bank Holidays

  • Pension: 6% Employer Contribution
