Community Occupational Therapist

We are seeking a dynamic, enthusiastic and motivated individual to work as an Occupational Therapist within the older adults community mental health team. You should have some experience of working with older adults who experience complex mental health conditions and experience of working in a community setting. You will need to possess excellent communication skills and be able to work independently and as part of the wider team. You should have a positive approach to meeting the needs of our service users and be able to demonstrate continued professional development.

The Team provides assessment and treatment for individuals with complex mental health conditions. We have a strong emphasis on multi-disciplinary team work in a service that includes Community Mental Health Nurses, Support Workers, Occupational Therapists, Psychiatrists and Psychologists.

The successful post holder will be supported with regular supervision, a yearly appraisal and CPD opportunities. There is also opportunity to be involved in research.

Main duties of the job
 

• To provide effective and timely care within a multidisciplinary team setting for Older People who present with functional and/or organic mental health problems.
   

To assess care needs, devise care programmes, packages of care including risk assessment and implement and evaluate these in collaboration with individual service users and also their carers, where appropriate and act as a keyworker.

To support and mentor less experienced staff, support workers and teach students from related professional backgrounds who are on placement with the CMHT.

To undertake duties designed to extend clinical and managerial expertise as delegated by the Deputy CMHT manager when required. This will include delegation of tasks involved in improving the service.

To provide a full care management service to service users and their carers.
