Chief Data & Ai Officer

 

Description:

In FY23, the data operation teams were aligned with and devolved to the ITV business units (e.g. Streaming, Commercial, Insights & Analytics, etc.) in support of ITV’s devolved technology operating model. This role sits within the CTO function and is critical to the success of ITV’s Digital Transformation agenda, as well as its wider business strategy.

The role

 

 

Reporting directly to the CTO, the position of Chief Data & AI Officer will play a critical role in refocusing the corporate data strategy to reflect this devolved structure, providing dynamic leadership to re-energise the data teams across the enterprise whilst executing on the 2024 business plan.

 

This leadership position requires a strategic mindset, strong technical skills, an outstanding delivery record and the ability to drive team engagement and influence business stakeholders. The Chief Data & AI Officer will be the key player in shaping the future of the data, AI and analytics initiatives to ensure the successful execution of all our strategic digital initiatives.

 

 

Skills you’ll need (minimum criteria)

 

  • Leadership of the Team: Directly manage the central team responsible for architecting and developing the shared data platform. Re-galvanise the data practice/community e.g. organising Data Town Halls, team-building exercises, etc.

 

 

  • Strategic Initiatives and Operating Model: Own and provide clarity around the data platform strategy, including product and service visions, data architecture, governance principles and roadmap.

 

 

  • AI Development and Implementation: Lead the development and deployment of AI solutions to drive business insights and decision-making. Collaborate with business units to identify AI opportunities and use cases to improve processes and outcomes.

 

 

  • Data Migration: Oversee and be accountable for the data migration project. Provide leadership and guidance to the project team.

 

 

  • Data Mesh Strategy and Implementation: Drive the implementation of the data mesh strategy by providing leadership and pragmatic decision-making. Provide leadership to the team and regular executive updates.

 

 

  • Streaming: Provide data support for personalisation programs and user testing via Amplitude. Manage potential areas of overlap between the data migration project and streaming roadmap.

 

 

  • Commercial Data: Define and deliver short-term tangible deliverables related to the establishment of a staging environment, data product release management, performance tuning methodology, and performance testing framework.

 

 

  • Recruitment: & Talent Development: Work with the Insights & Analytics Team to establish a data and analytics talent development roadmap including a career framework and job families. Develop an onboarding and training plan to support this roadmap

 

 

 

Other things we’re looking for (key criteria)

 

  • Proven track record of building and leading high-performing data engineering teams.
  • Strong knowledge of data mesh principles and experience of implementing them in a real-world environment.
  • Proficiency in big data technologies (e.g., Hadoop, Spark, Kafka) and cloud-based data platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure), data modelling, ETL processes and data warehousing.
  • Deep understanding of AI technologies, including machine learning, natural language processing, and computer vision.
  • Familiarity with data governance, data security, and data compliance practices.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, including the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly to business leaders.
  • The ability to build and manage relationships, challenge thinking and influence colleagues including senior executives, up to and including board level.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and the ability to make informed and timely decisions, especially in high-pressure or ambiguous situations.
  • Media sector experience would be advantageous.
