Description:
The CDM Safety Advisor is responsible for the on-site Health, Safety, Welfare and Environment of the contractors and employees at Client sites, working within the Niras Lorien Engineering Solutions framework of the ISO45001 Safety Management System, to manage site construction and installation activities on client’s industrial premises under the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015, and to represent Niras Lorien as the ‘Principal Contractor’.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage site construction and installation activities on Client’s industrial premises, lead all daily briefings and daily H&S meetings.
Ensure the safety on site for all including contractors and that all procedures & policies are followed and adhered to at all times.
To represent Niras as a professional organisation at all times.
Prepare, develop and implement a written plan and site rules (Construction Phase H&S Plan).
Give contractors the Plan and ensure there is a good understanding to achieve safe outcome and ensure all formal on boarding structure being granted access to site.
Deliver and update a site induction pack, ensure all workers have site inductions and any further information and training needed for the work, and the induction register is maintained.
Check the competence of all workers when undertaking work at site, and collect evidence.
Ensure all plant and equipment used on site has been checked according to the particular frequency demanded, and that evidence of the inspection / examination is available upon request.
Review Risk Assessment and Method Statements (RA/MS) and raise / issue Permit To Work documents as required.
Undertake regular site safety tours (ideally 2 - 4 per day), observing the working practices, safety/housekeeping/hygiene of the workplace, compliance with the RA/MS and Permits, compliance with the Plan/Induction site rules.
Maintain a live electronic site diary of notable activities, for historic recall and/or site handover and Ensure the construction site areas are secure when not occupied.
Liaise with the Project Engineering team regarding the sequence and programme of the works and communicate this with the contractors.
Co-operate with others and co-ordinate work so as to ensure the health and safety of construction workers and others who may be affected by the work.
Report and investigate as the highest priority, accidents, injuries, incidents and damage.
Administer the Niras Lorien Safety Card System and Reward & Recognition Scheme, at site.
First Aid at Work trained and administer First Aid, or direct to First Aid resources on site.
Hours of Work:
Working hours will be dictated by individual site/project requirements, working hours are typically between 10 -13 hours per day and many sites work a shift rota covering the site 7 days per week. Night working may be required for periods of time.
Please be advised, this role will require frequent travel UK wide, with the requirement for extended durations away from home so please ensure you are able to commit prior to applying.
European travel may be needed, so must have a valid passport, with a clear 6-months in date.
Qualifications:
NEBOSH General/Construction H&S Certificate
2 years in-post experience as a CDM Safety Manager
Engineering qualification (HNC / HND etc.)
A higher level of computer literacy is essential, with significant skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and hardware / peripheral connectivity., using bespoke Apps, write short reports and minutes of meetings etc
