Description:
The post holder will provide day to day operational and administrative support to the Cancer Genetics Service and to work closely with the clinical team, laboratory colleagues and pathway co-ordinator as directed by Lead Consultant for Cancer Genetics and Lead Genetic Counsellor.
- Contact histopathology department to obtain reports.
- Under guidance of clinician contacting histopathology department to request tumour tests / tumour samples be sent to appropriate laboratory for testing.
- Keeping log of sample/report requests, sending no response correspondence, informing clinician of progress and tracking files and progress of Phenotips
- Contacting laboratories for genetic test reports
- Writing to cancer registries for cancer confirmations
- Recording cancer triage outcome on Phenotips
- Logging reports received, uploading these to the appropriate computer program, informing relevant clinician of results and passing file (while still paper files) to clinician.
- Generating standard letters, using templates and filling in family history information
- Uploading letters to Cerner
- Uploading reports to Phenotips/Cerner
- Requesting lists for patients to be discussed at MDT and preparing patient files for MDT and passing these to relevant clinicians.
- Uploading MDT outcomes on Phenotips/ cerner and filing MDT outcomes in patient records.
- Sending out family history questionnaires (or link when tis is available) and no response letters
- Contacting patients by phone or email to obtain additional information including consent to access genetic test reports or additional family history information.
- Maintain record of patient samples sent to laboratories for testing and follow up for results within expected turnaround times as necessary
