What you'll be doing
As a Business Development Manager you will be responsible for:
- Responsible for supporting the work winning strategy for the Balfour Beatty Rail Plant business area, working within the Rail Plant Work Winning Team to influence our pursuit strategy and enable effective business planning both in tendering and delivery.
- To be a key member within the business development team, supporting the Work Winning function with client engagement to ensure best practice and consistency.
- Take a lead on new market entry strategies, supporting the Head of Work Winning and team in articulating scale and scope to the business at a Senior level. This will include leading on market research, market sizing, barriers to entry, competitors and potential delivery models.
- Represent the Rail Plant business within the Rail Sector, supporting the Work Winning Team and developing strategies for target joint pursuits (including clients such Network Rail, TfL, TfW, Tier 1 & 2 Organisations etc)
- Undertake the role of Sales Lead on opportunities, responsible for Capture Planning to enable the development of the work winning strategy.
- Working collaboratively with the wider Work Winning Team to ensure Capture Plans are successfully implemented and strategies are in line with client drivers.
- Establish and maintain positive and effective relationships with customers, partners and internal stakeholders.
- Responsible for maintaining the client pipeline, along with other Managers, and reporting regularly to business area management.
- Responsible for ensuring regular customer surveys are undertaken, feeding back to the business and supporting improvement plans where necessary.
- Identifying market research activity to support business strategy, including ensuring competitor analysis information is maintained.
- Lead the preparation, co-ordination and delivery of presentations to customers as required.
- Support post-bid reviews, feeding into lessons learnt and client feedback for future opportunities.
Who we're looking for

- Experience of working collaboratively within a high-pressure team environment and meeting key deadlines.
- Have previous customer development and sales experience in track renewals.
- Have a proven track record in delivering sustainable sales across a diverse client base and also experience in business development activities.
- Understanding of customer relationship management processes.
- Be highly motivated and hardworking, to develop new customer relationships, opportunities and to win sustainable work.
- Be IT Literate.
- Ability to clearly and concisely communicate both verbally and in writing.
- Be articulate, flexible, trustworthy, open minded, professional, credible, ethical and possess good business acumen.
