The Business Architect is a key role in the Enterprise Architecture (EA) team, providing expert guidance to the business to clarify strategic direction and support organisational change and investments that deliver targeted business outcomes.

The Business Architect works closely with strategy and business leaders to bridge the gap between business and technology and create alignment between business and delivery. The business architect clarifies strategic intentions, identifies business outcomes, explores implications, impacts and risks, and identifies ways to improve the business and address stakeholders’ questions.

The Business Architect acts as custodian of enterprise-level business models, leveraging them to provide strategic guidance to underpin alignment of business and IT delivery. Specifically, this supports business leaders as they understand, apply, monetise and operationalise existing, new, and emerging methods and technologies to transform and optimise business and operating models.

Essential Experience

  • Significant experience of business strategy facilitation, formulation and/or translation, with a track record of translating that into the appropriate business architecture deliverables.
  • Significant experience in playing a key role in one or more of the following areas: business transformation and optimization, strategic planning, leadership, business relationship management and/or business process management.
  • Experience of working in an outsourced environment with an “outputs-based” operating model.
  • Significant experience in use of standard, current business architecture techniques.
  • Significant demonstrable experience of embedding the benefits of business architecture in an organisation.

Essential Technical Knowledge And Skills

  • Fluent in all aspects of designing and constructing business capabilities, value streams, business processes, and organisational structures.
  • Ability to produce, interpret and assess different types of business and operating models.
  • Knowledge of existing, new and emerging technologies and ability to apply them to new business designs and business models to achieve targeted business outcomes.
  • Demonstrable understanding of the importance of maintaining strong, managed alignment between business strategy, objectives and IT solutions.
  • Experience in Analysis and Design of Business Capabilities (individually, and as a cohesive architecture).
  • Adept at defining and communicating the traceability from business motivation, through business capability design, to solution definition.
