We are looking for a chartered Quantity Surveyor who is capable of operating at a senior level. Due to the nature of our projects in Cambridge we are seeking an Associate Director to join our Cost Management team who has prior experience of working on historic buildings and is familiar with the unique challenges that working on such projects entail.

Whilst candidates from a similar cost management consultancy background are desired, we would welcome applicants from candidates with a contractor background where they have a strong background of working on historic buildings in the local Cambridgeshire area.

Hybrid working is standard practice to all our employees. You will be afforded to freedom to carry out your role as required between the Cambridge office, site(s) and home.

Key tasks and responsibilities of the Associate Director role include:
 

  • Working in a leadership role alongside a team of Quantity Surveyors and Project Managers reporting directly into the Executive Director whilst providing a cost consulting role the client.
  • Ensure that our clients achieve their stated objectives through close teamwork, proactive cost control and the provision of contractual advice.
  • Managing clients and taking an active role in the profit and loss management for individual client accounts.
  • Attend and/or chair meetings with client.
  • Prepare financial reports .
  • Monitor the communication of a project status.
  • Prepare full tender documentation .
  • Provide advice on contractors, specialists, procurement routes, cost and programme solutions.
  • Provide advice on suitability and preparation of contract documents.
  • Prepare management reports.
  • Monitor performance milestones and deliverables.
  • Administer cost/variation procedures.
  • Carry out full post contract surveying duties including establishing the effect of variations, settlement of accounts and disputes.
  • Provide day-to-day cost management of projects from estimate preparation and cost planning through to final account settlements.
  • Take an active role in managing, mentoring and supporting the development of junior staff within the Cambridge office.
     

Desired Qualifications And Experience
 

  • A relevant degree or masters qualification in quantity surveyor or similar equivalent subject
  • Full membership of a relevant professional body such as the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) or similar.
  • Prior experience of working on historic and/or listed buildings is essential.
  • The ability to autonomously carry out a full range of pre and post contract duties from conception through to final accounting.
  • Strong cost planning skills and the ability to review technical drawings and fully grasp the complexities of what may not be shown on a drawing but needs to be considered for work being carried out on historic buildings.
  • Strong client facing and stakeholder engagement skills are essential and demonstrable experience of acting in the lead role to the client, providing traditional cost management services.
  • Prior experience of working in the Employers Agent role would be advantageous but may not be essential.
  • Familiar with common forms of contract such as JCT and NEC.
